The Spell of Obtainment is one of the spells seen in the show. It is a forbidden spell that leeches power from the world, greatly enhancing the magic of while at the treacherous cost of turning the caster into a “magic parasite” [1] if not killing them outright. This spell turned Light Spinner into Shadow Weaver.
History[]
Shadow Weaver planned to used the spell, in a modified form, in an attempt to combat the Horde. When she did use the spell, it consumed her. She then attacked two sorcerers and the lead sorcerer Norwyn, using the spell to consume the magic as well as life out of him.
Before dying, Norwyn called the spell a “magical parasite” which entails that after the initial casting of the spell, the caster must continue to feed on magical things or people to enhance their powers and keep them. Otherwise, the faster risks become completely powerless. That is why, after casting the Spell of Obtainment, Shadow Weaver devoured/absorbed Norwyn, one of the most powerful magic users and, after joining The Horde, needed to recharge her powers by feeding on the Black Garnet. She became dependent on the Horde because she was dependent on the Black Garnet that could only be provided there. This makes evident how powerful the spell truly is because it shows that even years after the spell has been cast Shadow Weaver still endures the consequences. The spell affected the entirety of her life because even after she realized the spell was clearly a mistake, there was no going back and so she spent her time trying to make her sacrifice worthwhile through her work in the Horde. She was repeatedly frustrated because she believes the Horde was all she has left, causing her atrocious behavior towards the cadet children. Satisfying the spell’s demands became her sole focus and consumed her emotionally stability, rocking mental state by limiting her options even while she was alive.
