“ | Razzle Dazzle!
— Madame Razz, vivaciously evading Horde soldiers
|
” |
Madame Razz is a supporting character in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. She is a mysterious crone hermit residing in the Whispering Woods. Often seen confused about the order of her memories, she possesses an immense amount of knowledge about Mara, She-Ra, and the Sword of Protection as well as experiencing events from both frames of time throughout her life. She treats Adora like a dear friend from the beginning, and she ends up accidentally guiding her to a number of places in the Whispering Woods crucial to the missions.
Razz was close friends with Mara, and she was the first Etherian that Mara met.
Appearance[]
Razz is an elderly woman, always seen with her broomstick at her side and butterflies or moths fluttering around her. She has large, round glasses nestled above her nose, poking out before her bubbly eyes, and an enormous bushy nest of gray hair. She wears a lime green neck wrap over purple robes, and she has multiple rings and bangles.
Personality[]
Razz comes off as sweet, rather confused, and often cheerfully reclusive. She usually appears to act unreasonably. Despite this, she has proved to be a very wise person, having a deep knowledge about magic, Etheria, the First Ones and She-Ra.
Razz appears to be in tune with nature and the magic of Etheria. She knows how to make exploding berries,[2] and she's respected by the forest's giant warthogs.[1]
From Razz's perspective, she seems to live in an uncontrollable time warp, which owes to her lack of mental clarity. Her mind shifts back and forth between Mara's time and Adora's time, and she often loses track of which is which and who belongs where.[1] She sometimes notices the discontinuities, usually dismissing them right away.
Relationships[]
Mara[]
Razz was good friends with Mara, the previous She-Ra. Razz stumbled upon Mara's spaceship and randomly wandered in, despite Mara telling her to do otherwise. Razz taught her that as She-Ra, she was a part of Etheria, that her magic and power came from the planet itself. Through an encounter with one of Etheria's large warthog animals, Razz demonstrated to Mara the magic of Etheria. She taught Mara that she didn't always need to fight in order to protect, and also that the magic came from her, not the sword. The sword was merely used to control magic, but the source of the magic was from Mara herself, shown when she could heal the plants of her battle ground. Razz changed Mara into a more patient person, undoing what Mara's superiors trained her to be, and showed her not to let her strong will become too much, become enough to hurt her community when it was the opposite of what she was really supposed to do. [1] Razz grieved the loss of Mara for ages, and she was rejoiced to see Mara again, when she was really meeting Adora.[2]
Razz, Adora, and Swift Wind baked a pie for Mara, which Razz left on the seat of her ship as a sign of respect to her dearly departed friend.[1]
Adora[]
“ | Madame Razz always shows up exactly when I need her most. She helped save you, and she helped stop the portal... She knows more than she lets on. There is a method to this... I just have to figure it out.
— Adora, ”Hero”
|
” |
Often mistaking her for Mara, Razz rejoices to see Adora any time they meet. During their first berry-picking outing, Razz provides Adora with some vague, yet helpful, information about She-Ra's role. Together with Swift Wind, Razz and She-Ra took on Grizzlor and his Horde soldiers at an outpost. She has continued to give Adora great advice throughout the series while affirming Adora's intelligence and morality.
When Hordak's portal machine ripped apart the fabric of reality, Razz guided Adora through the chaos so that She-Ra could save the planet.
Swift Wind[]
“ | Adora, as your noble steed, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that Razz is kind of--
— Swift Wind, ”Hero”
|
” |
Razz befriended Swift Wind soon after his transformation from a horse, and she re-introduced him and Adora. Swift Wind visits Razz all the time, noting that you need to check up on old ladies alone in the woods.[1]
Light Hope[]
“ | Your ghost is mean.
— Razz about Light Hope, ”Hero”
|
” |
Razz doesn't seem to know Light Hope well, having a brief and contentious interaction with her on Mara's ship and calling her a ghost. Mara quietly convinced Razz that the computer projection was not a threat to her.
Broom[]
Razz seems to regard her broom as a friend, as she is shown talking to it on various occasions, despite the fact that it is an inanimate object. She says that she is not living alone in the woods, because she is accompanied by Loo-Kee and Broom. In the 1985 She-Ra series though, Broom is alive.
Powers and abilities[]
- Chronosthesia: Razz has a seemingly uncontrollable power to mentally travel back and forth through time. She confuses both Mara and Adora, despite a more than 1000-year gap between their lives.[3]
- Pyrokinesis: Razz can light her hearth with the snap of her fingers.[1]
- Telekinesis: Razz can summon objects, like Broom, over a distance of several feet. [2][1]
- Immortality: Razz is shown to be immortal as she lived for more than a thousand years, In the original She-Ra Razz was older than a thousand years.
- Agility: Razz does use her broom for walking, but she is shown to be very agile, as seen when she was climbing on the Crystal Castle with ease.

Trivia[]
- Adora reminds Madame Razz of Mara.[4]
- In the original series, Razz was a Twigget, a race of white-haired and purple-skinned humanoids who inhabit the Whispering Woods and have a deep connection with the forest.
- Razz has several dolls of similar appearance, possible evidence that there are (or were) more folk just like Razz.
- If Razz knew Mara 1000 years before Adora, it's possible Razz has increased longevity and lived through the interim. The alternative is that this just is an effect of her chronosthesia.
- Razz is farsighted. (Her lenses magnify her eyes.)
- Razz mentions Broom and Loo-Kee from the original She-Ra: Princess of Power. Broom she carries around with her, and Loo-Kee is the character that always used to hide in the background of episodes. Razz apparently knows Loo-Kee as a trickster,[1] and she has a fan with his image on it.[2]
- When Razz turns on a timer for the oven in "Hero," the device she uses to control the oven has a knob which she turns. It is a rectangular pyramid. One side has the Sword of Protection symbol on it.
- The She-Ra pitch bible summarizes Madame Razz as Super old, and describes her as as “the Yoda of the story”.[5]
- The pitch also says “There is a running joke that Madame Razz has a rife romantic history, and the main cast keep encountering her numerous former flames in unexpected places, often still madly in love with Madame Razz.”[5]
- One unused episode idea ND Stevenson once pitched was where "Madame Razz's ex, a[n]... elf king, comes to the rebels asking for help. He's still desperately in love with her though she is indifferent. Everyone else is confused."[6]
- Madame Razz is Jacob Tobia's favorite character.[7]
