Horde Chips were microchips that allowed Horde Prime to connect others to his Hive Mind and control them. The chip also allowed Horde Prime to possess a person's body, granting him the ability to speak through them and directly control their body's movement. It also makes their eyes glow green.
Interestingly, victims of Horde Prime's mind-controling chips tend to retain the major aspects of their former personality, acknowledging all of their relationships with their characteristic feelings and with all memories remaining intact. The main difference is a feeling of euphoric serenity combined with an all-consuming loyalty and subservience to Horde Prime, such that they unhesitantly oppose any resistance to Horde Prime's objectives, even, if deemed necessary, to the point of deadly violence against those they care about. Before resorting to such drastic measures, they will often invite their companions to join them in the "Light of Horde Prime," which they regard as a benevolence. If this offer is rejected, it is not uncommon for them to express a certain resigned disappointment in those who they then feel compelled to disable and destroy.
Horde Prime's influence through the chips leaves visual tell-tales on the victim's body, most notably in the form of turning the eyes completely green (sclera, iris, and pupil) while acting openly under his influence. As the chip takes over more fully, subtly-pulsing veins of a darker green color branch out from the edges of the eyes, such as is seen with Spinnerella[1]and Mermista.[2] In the case of Scorpia, the green veins extend further, down her neck and over her shoulders and upper arms. The visual effect on Micah is unique. Rather than veins of green, wide jagged stripes of a maroon color appear on his face and down his arms, perhaps related to the dark magic he wields.[3]
The most effective and reliable way to free victims from the mind control is to damage the chip, generally by hitting it in some way, and then having it surgically removed.
The longer the chip remains on a person, the harder it gets to remove, as it fuses to their nervous system. If left on too long, it is possible it would become impossible to remove, making it a permanent part of them.[4]
