Welcome to my Day 16 fanfic, which is about . . . well, you can guess!
Kiss
Queen Glimmer and Master Archer Bow walked under a sky shaded in a thousand velvety purples, and the castle moat sparkling beside them reflected an opalescent brilliance from the two largest moons of Etheria.
They were holding hands, walking in slow measured steps.
Silent but for the breath of hesitation preceding heartfelt words.
Finally, Glimmer spoke her thoughts.
"Bow?" She paused. "The other night, . . . when I said I . . . loved you . . ."
There was a prolonged pause.
"Yes?"
Glimmer continued. "Well . . . I meant it in a very certain way."
Bow remained silent.
"A very certain way," Glimmer emphasized, "Like in a way that I've never said it to anyone else before."
Suddenly, Bow stopped walking, so Glimmer did, too. His face was in darkness, and she couldn't quite read his expression.
"Bow?" Glimmer pressed, uncertainly.
Bow turned toward her, and the light brushed across his face, revealing a look both serious and pleased.
"Me, too. When I said I loved you, I meant, that I . . . love you." His grin widened. "And I hoped that was what you had meant, too."
"It was! I do!" Glimmer affirmed excitedly. She gripped both of Bow's hands with hers, looking up at him with earnest eyes. "As close as I was feeling to you right then, . . . I've never felt that close to anyone before! And I suddenly realized what it was."
Bow shook his head in wonder. "Glimmer, how did this happen?"
Glimmer giggled a little. "I don't know!"
She squeezed his hands tighter. "But I'm really glad it did!"
Bow nodded. "Me, too."
Glimmer turned and started walking alongside the moat again, a little quicker, her grip of Bow's hand a little tighter.
Another silence lingered, until . . .
"Bow, can I ask you something?" It came in a little rush.
"Uh, . . . sure."
"As long as we've been friends did you ever think . . . about kissing . . . me?"
She glanced at Bow, who was frowning slightly in thought.
"I mean, besides on the forehead," she clarified.
'Hmm," he murmured in thought. "True answer?"
"True answer."
"Then . . ." Bow hesitated. "No?"
"Huh," Glimmer responded. "Me neither. Isn't that kinda weird?"
"I don't know," he admitted. "Maybe."
Glimmer considered. "Well . . . maybe . . . we should try it."
They stopped walking again, and Bow turned to face Glimmer. Their hands found each other again.
"'Cause now it seems like maybe we could," concluded Glimmer.
"Okay." Bow nodded, looking her in the eyes.
They drifted a little closer to each other, then stopped, each one waiting to see what the other would do.
Glimmer stared up at Bow as if mesmerized. "Maybe," she began. "Maybe we should, sort of . . . work into it, or something."
"Yeah," Bow agreed with a self-conscious smile. "Good idea."
Slowly, Bow tilted his head down towards Glimmer, and she leaned toward him.
Their cheeks met, and Glimmer closed her eyes, smiling.
"Your skin is so warm," she murmured.
Bow relaxed. "Yours, too." He moved his cheek against hers. "And really smooth."
Glimmer giggled again. "I can feel your stubble a little. Kinda tickles! I like it." She sighed, and they turned toward each other more, drawing their faces slightly apart.
Bow looked admiringly at Glimmer's face. "I've always loved your smile, Glimmer. And you have . . . very cute lips." He bit his own lip and maybe he blushed a little bit. It was hard to tell in the dark.
Glimmer's eyes crinkled up, and she beamed. "You, too!"
Slowly, they brought their faces close enough to touch again, just the tips of their noses, and then as they pressed closer. their noses slid alongside each other, like a gentle caress.
Glimmer slowly moved her head a little bit to each side, nuzzling her nose against Bow's. They could feel the warmth of each other's breaths.
She let out a little surprised, "Ooo," at the sensation, and Bow smiled with the same feeling.
Glimmer's hands slid up to Bow's shoulders, and he reached around her back.
Suddenly, their bodies were against each other, and Glimmer touched her lips against Bow's.
And then it happened.
Their first true I-love-you kiss!
After several moments of soft feeling, when they practically forgot that they were two separate people, they slowly pulled away and opened their eyes, staring at each other with looks of absolute amazed wonder.
"Wow," Bow exclaimed in a near whisper.
Glimmer agreed. "Wow."
As they turned to continue their walk, Bow took Glimmer's hand again, and they each slipped an arm around the other's waist, walking closely side-by-side.
Glimmer spoke aloud what was running through her head now. "I can't believe I never thought of us doing that before."
"Same. Me neither."
After another couple of steps, Bow broke the brief silence with a cheeky smile in his tone. "But I'm pretty sure we'll think about it now. Right?"
Glimmer didn't hesitate. "Oh, yeah!"
And it wasn't long after those words that they shared their second true I-love-you kiss!
