Hey everyone.
This is my first stab at a fanfic. It started out as just imagining what all the characters were talking about at the end of the final battle, as we only get little snippets. Then it turned into all my ideas for where things would go from there. Now, I've got a whole outline for what would take place over a sixth season, and I'm working on writing it in the form of episodes.
I'm finally pleased enough with what I've been doing, that I thought someone else might enjoy it.
So, I'm sharing Episode 53, but because it's so long, I thought I'd share it in parts. This first is the scene between Mermista and Seahawk, taking place literally during the last few minutes of the final episode.
Hope you enjoy! If you like, there's more.
EPISODE 53: On The Plain Of Heroes
ETHERIA: A world of deep magic suffusing the water, land, the trees, the fields, bird and beast, flowers, hills, rivers, and mountains. From the skies, to the earth, to its deepest core. It is a world only just reborn, blooming and growing wildly in flora and fauna, glowing, with rainbow-threaded skies and the vastness of green as far as the eye can see, or the mind can comprehend, or the feelings feel. Ancient wounds newly mended, life-blood pulsing again.
A vast gathering of peoples and heroes of peoples stand awestruck on the transformed plain of daylight, rinsed clean of the battle-soaked dawn, fresh and open to every possibility.
The great Captain Sea Hawk stands jauntily with his arm around the shoulders of the radiant sea princess, Mermista, bruised and weary of the final fight for Etheria, but glowing and smiling up at him. In that moment when the rest of the world seems to dissolve around them, they are alive, and nothing else seems to matter. Until, Mermista’s face suddenly falls into a slight frown. She looks around, and sees everyone laughing, joyous. But there is an air of strangeness, especially seeing Hordak, at whose hands her friends suffered terribly, walking arm in arm with her fellow princess, Entrapta. Smiling, even. And on the surrounding hills, dozens and perhaps hundreds of identical forms, clones of the evil Horde Prime, the bitterest enemy of the Princess Alliance, now standing in innocence and wonder, apparently freed from his malevolent influence. She raises a skeptical eye-brow.
Mermista: So, are we all just, like . . . okay with this?
Sea Hawk [noticing it, too, with a confused expression]: You mean, you’re actually asking old Sea Hawk for an opinion on all of this.
Mermista [staring at him]: Yeah, I mean, obviously, who else?
Sea Hawk [frowning slightly in thought]: Well, since you ask . . . [brightening, smiling] I will tell you!
Mermista: Oh, no.
Sea Hawk: Because, this, of any time, is most definitely --- SHANTY TIME!!
Mermista: No. Seriously!?
As Sea Hawk’s song kicks in, Mermista cringes, and drops her forehead into her free hand. Some people nearby turn their attention to them and begin clapping along.
Sea Hawk [singing]: Ohhhhhhhhhhhh,
On this fine day, I’ll have my say, and shall relay to you,
What presently, upon the sea, I must propose to do!
It’s very clear, and fine to hear, my promise and my vow,
What lies in store, adventure for Mermista and me now.
Mermista [opening her eyes wide, not so pleased]: Woah, what? Wait a minute.
Sea Hawk [still singing]:
For I set down upon this ground a burden I have carried,
And say it true to her and you, that now it’s time we --
Mermista finds a new strength as she stifles Sea Hawk with a sharp hand on his mouth, turning around and grabbing him forcefully by the front of his shirt.
Mermista [fiercely]: Okay, look, no. Not even. Shanty time over! Time to go!
She proceeds to pull him away to his great and sudden surprise, more or less dragging him along from over her shoulder.
Sea Hawk [to the onlookers]: Uh, goodbye, everyone. Adventure!!
Mermista, with Sea Hawk in tow, enters a grove of ancient trees, strangely new in the brilliant rebirth of Etheria, where she suddenly lets go of him and drops to her knees, her head down, impossible to read. Sea Hawk leans down over her, placing a hand on her shoulder, and speaks tentatively.
Sea Hawk: Mermista . . . my lady . . . princess . . . I told you I . . . love you. I thought, after all that’s happened between us . . .
Mermista: I know. [Groaning heavily] Uggggggggh! Why do you always have to be like that?!! [then, turning her head to look up at him, flushed, but not frowning] And like this?
Sea Hawk: [awkwardly] I thought . . . you felt the same way.
Mermista: [putting a hand on his hand, smiling a little in spite of herself] Hey. I . . . do . . . [quickly] I mean, . . . it’s just . . . a little complicated, right now.
Sea Hawk looks puppy-eyed and fragile.
Mermista: [squeezing his hand and smiling encouragingly] It’s okay, though. We’re, like . . . working on it.
A smile returns to Sea Hawk’s face, washing in like the tide. Mermista looks down again, her shoulders slumping wearily.
Mermista: [sighing] And, I’m kinda tired. Not in a shanty mood, or whatever.
Sea Hawk: [brightly] You have a shanty mood?
Mermista: [definitely] No.
Mermista reaches up to him.
Mermista: Just take me to my ship, Captain. I wanna go home.
Sea Hawk: As you say, Princess.
He takes her hand, as she leverages to her feet, her legs wobbly with fatigue. They stare at each other a moment. Then, Seahawk places an arm around her shoulders and reaches down with his other arm under her legs.
Mermista’s eyes widen as she suddenly finds herself supported in Sea Hawk’s arms. Then she relaxes and shrugs, resigned.
Mermista: [tiredly] Yeah . . . okay, sure. Not gonna argue, actually.
She rests her head on his shoulder and shuts her eyes, exhausted, as Sea Hawk gently carries her with him, toward the harbor.
